Comments: Out of the Rainbow captures the spirit and joy of growing up during a time when lessons learned did not all come out of a book. Exploring the great forests and streams of the north provide the backdrop for learning the greatest lessons in life, that we all depend on each other, learn from each other, and we should give thanks for the happiness we receive from others.

Comments: Thurston captures all the magic and wonder of the natural world as seen through the eyes of a child. In our modern world where children play inside as if under house arrest, Thurston resurrects a time not so long ago when children’s pastimes included fishing, berry picking, and digging snow tunnels. Out of the Rainbow is a gentle reminder to us all of what we are losing when we fail to protect our wild places.

Comments: Nothing makes for a better children’s book than fun, adventure, friends, a pet dog, and a swamp creature. Charming and delightful!

Comments: Young children should enjoy reading about Michigan’s great Upper Peninsula. Out of the Rainbow reminded me of my youthful adventures in the forests of northern Wisconsin. --John G. Wilson, Silviculturist Nicolet National Forest

Comments: Even though I live in Felch, Michigan, "Out of the Rainbow" taught me about life in Felch years ago. I loved that this book took me into the childhood of three young boys and walked me through the streets of Felch years ago. Living here I have the luxury of visiting many of the places Mr. Thurston wrote about in his children's book. I must say that I view them differently now. I now think of this area with a greater understanding of the people of yesterday. This book brought me back, and even though it is a fiction story, it introduced me to Felch years ago. The author was so descriptive in his writing that I felt like a "Fourth Muskateer"! Great book, I highly recommend it.

Comments: Finished your book and think it is wonderful; kids should really get into it as you have mystery, adventure, friendship, and Zipper. I like all of the "teaching" about nature and caring for the outdoors and others. Good illustrations, too. Great job!!
